I hated being alone.

The simple thought of being by myself used to make me anxious.

I carried parts of myself I didn’t like.

And as much as I tried to hide it, I believed that if I just stayed surrounded by people, those parts might somehow disappear—it didn’t.

No matter how loud the world got around me, the quiet inside felt even louder.

But here is what I learned since:

Isolation vs. Solitude

I used to think being alone meant being lonely—but they’re not the same.

Both isolation and solitude are choices.

The difference however, is the way in which you frame it.

Isolation is escape. You’re running—from the world, from discomfort, and from yourself.

Solitude is return. You’re coming home—to your mind, your emotions, and your truth. You’re choosing stillness. You’re choosing presence. You’re choosing you.

And that shift in mindset? It changed everything.

How to Practice Building Solitude — and build real self-trust in the process

  1. Take Yourself on Solo Dates

This builds emotional independence and rewires your brain to associate solitude with pleasure, not lack.

  2. Practice Silent Mornings or Evenings

Dedicate the first or last half hour of your day to silence—no phone, no music, no talking.

  3. Create Something Without Sharing It

It’ll reinforce intrinsic motivation and teach you to value your own validation over external applause.

  4. Sit in Nature

Being outdoors helps regulate your nervous system and teaches you the beauty of doing nothing without feeling guilty.

Accepting Who You Are

Acceptance isn’t giving up. It’s not passive. It’s powerful.

It means seeing all of who you are—the strengths, the shadows, the softness—and choosing to show up anyway.

When you stop running from yourself, you stop needing others to complete you.
You become whole on your own.

Solitude isn't the absence of love—it’s the beginning of self-trust.

Stay unbreakable,

Chun
