Runner. Writer. Artist.

I’ve used those labels to describe myself—but what do they really mean?

Do they actually define who I am?
Or are they just surface-level titles — vague reflections of something deeper?

Think about it:
What separates one runner from another?
What makes one artist different from the next?
And does calling yourself a “writer” truly mean anything if you stop writing?

For years, I lived and breathed basketball.
It wasn’t just something I did — it was who I embodied.

Until I stopped playing.

Suddenly, the label disappeared. And with it, my sense of identity.

Without the title, I didn’t know who I was.
What did I value? What did I believe? What did I want?

The Truth I Learned While Traveling

After five months of traveling through Asia, perspective hit me hard:

Identity isn’t given. It’s created.

It’s not about what you call yourself.
It’s about the internal foundation you build — and how you live it out.

🔺 The Identity Triangle: A Framework for Knowing Who You Are

Your identity isn’t just a title — it’s the internal foundation you stand on.
And that foundation is built on three pillars:

1. Characteristics — Who You Are in Action

These are the consistent traits that show up in how you move through the world.
They’re revealed by your habits, your tone, your energy, your decision-making under pressure.

🧠 You don’t “become” confident — you behave with confidence until it sticks.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I someone who follows through?

  • Am I calm under stress, or reactive?

  • Do I show up with discipline or only when I feel like it?

2. Values — What Matters Most to You

Your values are the non-negotiables. They’re not what you say matters — they’re what your actions prove matter.

🧭 Your values are your compass — they keep you aligned when everything else feels uncertain.

For example:

  • If you value growth, you seek challenge.

  • If you value integrity, you keep your word — even when no one’s watching.

  • If you value freedom, you build your life in a way that protects it.

3. Beliefs — The Truths You Live By

These are the invisible scripts running your life.
They shape your confidence, your effort, your self-worth — even your idea of what's possible.

💡 Beliefs are powerful — they either limit you or launch you.

Beliefs can be rewritten. You can rewire your programming with simple mindset shifts:

  • “I’m not good enough.” → “I’m working on it.”

  • “Success is not for me.” → “I am worthy as long as I continue.”

  • “If I fail, it means I’m a failure.” → “I am starting off as a beginner.”

When All Three Align…

The more clearly you define these three, the stronger your sense of self becomes.
Not because of a title—but because of alignment.

You Are the Architect

You are not your job.
You are not your followers, your income, your resume—or the identity someone else gave you.

Identity isn’t found. It’s built.

You are the sum of what you choose to show up for every day.

And that means:
You have the power to shape who you are becoming.

👉 So… who are you becoming?
Not just in title, but in character. In values. In belief.
